A long time ago, the king of the Dagaabas was a Frafra man. The Dagaos loved their Frafra king. They gave him a beautiful Dagao girl every night as a pillow. It was a privilege both for the Dagao girl and her family to spend one night with their Frafra king. All the Dagao girls dreamt of this moment and the chance to be closer to the King.
Every day, the Dagaos will gather at the King’s palace. They came with their best dogs, those big fat dogs, a chain around the dog’s neck, and a smile on their faces. They also came with and played the mesmerising gyile instrument, and sang songs of praise to their Frafra king.

Each of the Dagao families will kill a dog and prepare it neatly for their Frafra king. After boiling the dog, the Dagaos will gather around the pot and admire the cooked dog saying “baa laara bugum”, which means the dog is laughing at the fire.
The only meat from the dog the Frafra king demanded from them was the head. He gave them all the other parts of the dog except the head which was to be reserved for their Frafra king. He even allowed them to eat the dog eggs wherever they find some.
The Dagaos realised that their Frafra King loved their nourishing pito. They, therefore, enchanted the pito so their king could not stop drinking the pito. From dawn to dusk, the Dagaos will bring him pots of pito, with yeast foamed around the mouth of the pot, poured onto neatly scrubbed calabash which was only for the king’s use.

He would drink the pito from morning to evening, dancing to the gyile music, singing songs, and admiring the Dagao girls as they dance and move, up and down, here and there, shaking their bodies and waists for his entertainment. While their king was busy drinking the pito, the Dagaos will hide behind his back to eat the dog heads.
One day the king caught the Dagaos hiding and eating the dog head. When they saw him, they quickly threw the bones away. The rest of the meat, they swallowed without chewing, some even choked on it, and started coughing artificially.
They begged their Frafra king to forgive them for eating the dog head, they promised that they will never eat the dog head again. They will humbly hand it over to their Frafra king from hence. The Frafra king forgave them but as a surety, they will have to double his pillows for the night and make it two. They agreed to his terms and sent two of their most beautiful girls every night as his pillows. Because of this if you see a Dagao man eating a dog head, and he senses the presence of a Frafra man, he will either vanish or feel shy.
The Dagao girls loved their Frafra King more than their men because he knew a secret the others did not know. The girls pampered him every night until he slept peacefully. This brought about peace and prosperity in the land. This is the reason why the Dagaos love their Frafra kings.
